Planning is underway for the 2019 Kansas HGSS Conference! We hope that pre-service teachers planning to enter the profession, social studies teachers currently part of the profession, and vendors passionate about supporting the profession will all join us at Newman University October 20-21 for two exciting days of networking, collaborating, and learning from one another. This year we will be joined by keynote speaker Dr. John Fea, Professor of American History at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Fea will be speaking about his book Why Study History?, published in 2013, in which he shows how reflecting on contemporary life from a historical perspective helps us better understand ourselves and the world around us. Find out more, submit a proposal to present, and register for the conference at http://ksche.weebly.com/state-conference.html.

We are also accepting nominations for the 2019 KCHE Teacher of the Year Awards. Two teachers will be recognized at our Fall conference, one at the Elementary level and one at the Secondary level. If you know a deserving teacher in the social studies profession who goes above and beyond to enrich history education for their students, please take a few minutes and nominate them HERE. Thank you! |
ObjectiveThe purpose of this blog is to provide a platform for KCHE Board members to contribute articles, lesson plans, information about PD opportunities, and other ideas relevant to social studies and history education beneficial to teachers throughout Kansas. With the RSS feed, teachers can get this information in real time, thus eliminating the slow turnaround of a newsletter. Winning! Archives
