All proposals will be evaluated by their intellectual content, their ability to engage the audience, and their overall contribution to the teaching of history. We are excited to announce that your Kansas social studies organizations have partnered together to bring you a unique professional development opportunity this year. It will be a series of FREE virtual PD sessions beginning in September to support your content, pedagogical, and social-emotional needs. The kick-off event is September 23, 5:00-6:00pm, with keynote speaker Joe Schmidt, social studies content specialist for the Maine Department of Education. Join Joe to learn about obstacles and opportunities in the social studies classroom, find out about future PD sessions scheduled for this virtual professional development series, and have a chance to chat with friends near and far! The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) and the Kansas Association of Education Service Agencies (KAESA) are collaborating to bring the most innovative and updated information to our workshops. The workshops will be two days (11+ hours) of rigorous professional development for Social Studies teachers grades 4-12. The Social studies track will be a dive into the new standards document, personalizing learning, and real world applications that could be used as a new HGSS assessment task. There will be breakout rooms for other content-specific standards as well. Location/Date/Registration information is listed/linked below. Limited slots are available for each workshop.
All KSDE Summer Workshops - LINK Garden City: Garden City High School, June 16th and 17th - LINK Goddard: Eisenhower High School, June 23rd and 24th - LINK Manhattan: Manhattan High School, July 14th and 15th - LINK Would you be willing to judge at the Kansas History Day State Contest? We will need around 55 judges for the state competition. State contest is Saturday, April 18th at Washburn University in Topeka. We start a more formal judges' orientation at 7:30 am with judging starting at 8:30 am or 9:00 am. At this contest, you will have access to process papers and annotated bibliographies usually a week and a half before the contest. Once again, we will provide breakfast and lunch. The day usually concludes around 2:00 pm with the awards ceremony at 4:00 pm. Times vary depending on the number of projects. Please email me if you would like to help. Please indicate what division and project preference you would be willing to judge.
